Fossil, Dinosaur Tooth Spinosaurus
- Geological - Late Cretaceous period: 66 - 96 million years ago. This dinosaur had an elaborate sail on its back. Broad, skin-covered spines over 6’ long projected upward from the backbone. Two different purposes for these spines have been suggested; the sail may have been used as a heat exchange and/or it may have been a recognition for other Spinosaurus. This dinosaur was 40’ - 50’ long & weighed more than 4 tons.
- Origin - Sahara desert, Morocco. Remains also found in NW Africa & Algeria.
