Fossil, Ammolite
- Geological - Opalized section of a fossiled Ammonite, an extinct group of marine animals. Members of the phylum Cephalopoda. They closely resemble the modern Nautilus, but their closest living relative is probably the octopus, squid & cuttlefish. They first appeared 300 million years ago. Their fossil shells usually take the form of spirals, there are also helically spiraled and non-spiraled forms as well. The animal that lived in these shells looked something like a squid or an octopus, with tentacles for grasping it’s food and moving around the ocean floor. Varying in size, coin size up to six feet, and color.
